7 Ways to Travel Green

Traveling green isn’t as difficult as you might think… in fact it could be as simple as a walk in the park!  Here are some tips on ways you can travel eco-friendly.  (We promise they’re not all that corny!)

1. Visit A Green Location

2. Stay at a Green Hotel

Some hotels offer free parking for hybrids, use energy efficient light bulbs and appliances, and even provide space for Eco organizations.  For more information, check out American’s 10 most Green Hotels

3. Travel Locally

  • Reduce fuel consumption (and save on fuel costs)
  • Eat and drink locally and support businesses that don’t import food

4. Use Green Modes of Transportation

  • Drive, don’t fly
  • Take a bus or train
  • Rent a hybrid
  • If you do fly, be sure to fly non-stop to save on fuel

5. Plan Green

  • Don’t buy newspapers and magazines just to pass the time
  • Bring your iPod and listen to podcasts
  • Use a PDA for a paperless Itinerary
  • Look up maps online with a wireless device

6. Pack Green

7. Green Your Gift

  • Be sure gift will be used
  • Give a consumable gift: chocolates, coffee, wines, flowers
  • Buy a local gift… Avoid items that had to be shipped in order to reduce emissions
  • Use green packaging-make sure it will be used again or recycled

Great advice—especially about the gifts! I’ve made the mistake in the past of giving gifts that I bought on the spur of the moment that I thought were neat, but they never got used. And personally, I always love getting chocolate or coffee from other places—it may not last but it’s always great to experience something new, even if you didn’t get to travel!
